Fall means cooler weather, back to school and of course, Halloween! If you’ve been keeping up with my posts, you’ll probably know that I’m not one to get too into the Halloween spirit. I’d much rather lounge in my pajamas than be opening the door all night for trick or treaters.
You don’t have to tell me, I’m already aware that I’m the Halloween version of Mr. Scrooge!
That being said, one super fun Halloween tradition we play in our neighborhood is the “You’ve Been Booed” game.

I’ll be honest, I had to do some research before creating this printable. I vaguely remember taking part in this tradition when I was in elementary school. A bag of candy would end up on my doorstep with a note. I would then have to place a bag full of Halloween candy on someone else’s doorstep. I remember it being so much fun trying to guess who left me the candy at my front door. Of course I always thought that maybe just maybe it was whatever boy I had a crush on that year!
And then as I grew up, and trick or treating wasn’t as cool anymore, I completely forgot about the “Booing” tradition.
As time went on and I had kids of my own, a mom friend of mine mentioned her children were taking part in the “You’ve Been Booed” game. After talking to her all about it, I started to remembered how much fun it was when I was younger and decided to create a free printable set to share with you all here today.
How do you “Boo” someone?
First, you’ll need to put together a little bucket or bag full of tasty halloween treats. Anything from some delicious candy to spooky pumpkin print socks would work great!
Next, print out the door hanger and bag topper. You can print two additional sets as well so whoever you booed can continue the fun! (They can always download the signs themselves by visiting the link to this blog post that is printed on the instruction sheet).
Make sure to put the “We’ve been booed” sign on your own door so everyone knows you have been booed already.
Attach the sign to your treat bag and then place the Halloween treats at the front door of the person you are booing. Ring the doorbell and run as fast as you can! Don’t get caught, as keeping yourself a secret is part of the fun!
Now it is their turn to Boo two others in the neighborhood. This game is a really fun Halloween tradition that your kids will love participating in each year!
The You’ve Been Booed Poem
You’ve Been Booed!
Now it’s your turn to “boo” two more!
First place the “We’ve been booed” sign on your front door.
You have two days to gather some treats…
some yummy, delicious, tasty sweets.
Put them in a bag with the “you’ve been booed” sign on top.
Next, drop, ring and run, but do not stop!
Don’t let anyone see you, that’s part of the fun!
Have a great Halloween everyone!
We’ve Been Booed Door Hanger and Sign
Be sure to hang this printable door hanger on your front door after you have been booed. This lets everyone in the neighborhood know that your house has already received a fun basket of tasty treats. Now, they can move on to another house to ensure that the whole town gets a chance to participate in this fun Halloween tradition.
Also included on the same page is the sign that you’ll be attaching to everyone’s basket that you will be “booing.”
The “You’ve Been Booed” sign reads:
You’ve Been Booed.
The door hanger and sign are designed to both fit on a single 8.5×11 inch piece of paper. For the best quality, I would definitely recommend printing on white cardstock. Not only will they look more professional, but they will also hold up much better as well.
Once printed, you can cut out the door hanger and sign using scissors or a paper cutter.
Feel free to print as many copies as you’d like. However, please do not edit or redistribute the files in any way.
Keep the kids entertained before trick or treating with this fun Halloween I Spy Game.
It can be really difficult to keep the kiddos from getting bored. It seems as if they’re having a blast playing a certain game one minute and then two minutes later it’s old news and they’re on the the next. That’s why I think it is a great idea to have a ton of free and easy games on hand. Especially for those rainy or snowy days when going outside just isn’t an option.
Not going to be home on Halloween? Check out this free printable “Please Take One” Sign.
This free printable please take one sign can be instantly downloaded and placed outside of your front door, right next to your candy bowl. This sign is great for those who may not be home on Halloween night, or for those who just don’t want to answer the door!
How about you? Does your neighborhood take part in the “You’ve Been Booed” tradition? If so, what are some of the best treats that you and your family have received?
