This hand puppet is a fun craft that is perfect to work on during the Spring season or any other time of year. It is easy to make and great for kids of all ages.
Supplies needed:
- Free printable puppet template (the download link is located at the bottom of this post)
- White cardstock (standard printer paper will also work, however cardstock is highly recommended for the best results)
- Markers, crayons or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
How to assemble:
Step 1: Print out the chick template.
First, download the chick puppet template from the form at the bottom of this post. Once downloaded, print out onto 8.5×11 inch white cardstock.
While printer paper will also work just fine, I would highly recommend using cardstock for the best durability.
Step 2: Color in the puppet.
Using crayons, markers, colored pencils or any other art supplies you have around the home or classroom, start by coloring in the chick.
There are two rectangles on the side of the page which will be the puppet’s handles. You can color these in if you would like, however, it is not necessary as they will not be seen from the front.
Step 3: Cut out the puppet.
Next, cut out the chick as well as the two rectangle handles on the side of the page.
Step 4: Fold the chick.
Once everything has been cut out, start folding the puppet along the dotted lines.
On the front of the chick you will see three dotted lines. Fold the middle line down and the top and bottom lines back to form the puppet as seen in the photo below.
After the puppet has been folded, you would see the chick’s beak. Its mouth will be hidden while the puppet is closed and you will be able to see it once you open it up using the handles.
Step 5: Glue on the handles.
Using glue or tape, attach the two handles to the top and bottom of the back of the puppet’s mouth. Place your hands into the handles and the chick’s mouth should easily open and close.
Favorite Printable Supplies:
These are a few of my favorite supplies that I use for printable games and activities:
- White Cardstock: For most projects, I recommend printing onto cardstock. It is much more durable than standard printer paper and often produces a higher quality print.
- Crayons: A staple in any crafting household. Crayola is always the top notch choice!
- Kid Friendly Safety Scissors: These are perfect for little kids learning how to use scissors. They cut paper but not fingers or hair!
- Glue Sticks: These disappearing purple glue sticks are by far my favorite! I love buying them in bulk since we use them so often!
- Lamination Machine: Laminating printables are a great way to make them last longer. If you are planning on laminating to make games reusable, be sure to get a bunch of dry erase markers as well.
- Dry Erase Pockets: Dry erase pockets are a great alternative to using a lamination machine when wanting to make printable games and activities reusable.
- Printer: A high quality printer is always recommended for the best results. If you are in need of a printer this Brother Wireless Printer is a great choice.
