Supplies Needed

  • Free printable Build a Crayon Box Craft template (the download link is located at the bottom of this post)
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Construction paper or cardstock (optional)

How to Use the Build a Crayon Box Craft

First, print out the crayon box template onto white printer paper or cardstock. Cardstock is a great option if you would like the finished craft to be a little sturdier.

Next, use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to color in the crayon box and each of the individual crayons. Kids can use traditional crayon colors, choose their own favorites, or create a completely unique rainbow of colors!

Your child can also write their name on the dotted lines.

Once everything has been colored, carefully cut out each of the pieces along the outlines. This is a great opportunity for children to practice their scissor skills. For younger children who are not yet able to safely use scissors, an adult can cut out the pieces ahead of time.

Next, begin assembling the craft by gluing the pieces together to create the finished crayon box. Use the completed example on the printable as a guide for where each piece should go.

Once everything is glued together, you can leave the craft as is or glue it onto a colorful piece of construction paper to create a fun background. Kids can even add their name, drawings, stickers, or other decorations to personalize their finished project.

These colorful crayon boxes would look so cute displayed around a classroom for the beginning of the school year. Hang them on a bulletin board or classroom door, or use them to decorate students’ desks or cubby areas.

Favorite Supplies:

These are a few of my favorite supplies that I use and LOVE!

  • White Cardstock: For most projects, I recommend printing onto cardstock. It is much more durable than standard printer paper and often produces a higher quality print.
  • Crayons: A staple in any crafting household. Crayola is always the top notch choice!
  • Kid Friendly Safety Scissors: These are perfect for little kids learning how to use scissors. They cut paper but not fingers or hair!
  • Glue Sticks: These disappearing purple glue sticks are by far my favorite! I love buying them in bulk since we use them so often!
  • Lamination Machine: Laminating printables are a great way to make them last longer. If you are planning on laminating to make games reusable, be sure to get a bunch of dry erase markers as well.
  • Dry Erase Pockets: Dry erase pockets are a great alternative to using a lamination machine when wanting to make printable games and activities reusable.
  • Printer: A high quality printer is always recommended for the best results. If you are in need of a printer this Brother Wireless Printer is a great choice.
