This build a pencil activity would be prefect for both at home or in the classroom.

If you are using it in the classroom, it would be a great project for having students make signs for their desk or cubby. It could also be a fun way to decorate the classroom wall or door.

Materials needed:

  • Free printable pdf coloring page (the download link is located at the bottom of this post)
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to use the build a pencil activity:

First, print out the coloring page template onto white printer paper or cardstock.

Begin by writing the child’s name on the lines on the pencil. If your child or student is able to write their names themselves, this would be great practice!

Next, using crayons, markers or colored pencils, begin coloring in all of the shapes that make up the pencil.

Cut out each shape using scissors. If the kids are able to, this would be a great opportunity for them to work on their scissor skills. If they are unable, you can cut out the pieces for them.

Next, begin gluing the eraser, metal portion and pencil tip onto the base of the pencil.

You can either be done at this step, or glue the pencil onto construction paper to add a fun colorful background.

I can see this as a really cute way to decorate the student’s desk or cubby as well as a classroom wall or door!
