How Do You Play Halloween Scattergories?

There are a few different ways you can play this Halloween Scattergories game! If you’re using it in a classroom, at a Halloween party, or with a larger group of family and friends, try setting a timer for about 3–5 minutes before handing out the game sheets. Players will have to work quickly to come up with as many answers as they can before time runs out!

This printable can also be played individually, making it a great quiet, screen-free Halloween activity for kids to enjoy at home or in the classroom.

At the top of the page, you’ll find eight different Halloween-themed categories. The goal is to think of a word that fits each category and begins with each letter in the word FEAR.

Encourage players to get creative with their answers—the more unique and silly, the better!

Example

Let’s take a look at category 2, “Halloween Costume.”

For F, you might write Frankenstein.
For E, you could write E.T.

Continue working through each letter and category, filling in as many answers as you can before the timer runs out.

If you get stuck on a category, that’s okay! Simply skip that space and move on to the next one. You can always come back to it later if you have extra time.

When time is up, take turns sharing and comparing answers with the other players. If two or more players wrote the same answer, everyone with that matching answer must cross it off their list.

Once all duplicate answers have been crossed out, count up the unique answers you have remaining. Each unique answer earns one point, and the player with the most points at the end wins!

Kid Friendly Safety Scissors: These are perfect for little kids learning how to use scissors. They cut paper but not fingers or hair!
Glue Sticks: These disappearing purple glue sticks are by far my favorite! I love buying them in bulk since we use them so often!
Lamination Machine: Laminating printables are a great way to make them last longer. If you are planning on laminating to make games reusable, be sure to get a bunch of dry erase markers as well.
Dry Erase Pockets: Dry erase pockets are a great alternative to using a lamination machine when wanting to make printable games and activities reusable.
