Can someone win the “How many words can you make” game, or is it just a fun activity?

It can be either one! It depends who you are playing with and if you would like to make it into a competition. If you are using this activity in a classroom, you may just want to have your students try and come up with as many words as they can, and that be the end of the activity.

If you are playing at a party, or just want to make things a little more challenging and competitive here are a few ways you can make the game just a bit more fun!

Make it a timed competition.
Set a timer for 3-5 minutes. If you are playing with younger children, you may want to set the timer for a longer amount of time. When someone says “GO,” each player has to try and make as many words as they can before the timer goes off. When time is up, whoever has come up with the most amount of words, can win a prize! And if you’d like to make it even more challenging, you can incorporate a scattergories element to the game. Keep reading below to find out how!

Turn the activity into a scattergories game.
For this challenging twist, everyone still have to write down as many words as they can during the allotted time. Try and think of the most unique words that you can.

After the timer runs out, everyone can go around the room and read out their answers and compare them. If there is another person that has a duplicate answer as you, you both must cross that word off your list. Whichever person has the most unique answers at the end of the game, can win a prize!

How to make the activity reusable:

If this is an activity that you would like to reuse in your classroom or at your yearly Valentine’s Day party, you may want to take a few extra steps to save you time reprinting every year.

Option 1: You can laminate the games.
If you have a lamination machine, you can simply laminate the games and then use dry erase markers to write down the words that you make. Afterwards, you can easily wipe away your answers and reuse again next year. This option would also be great if you are hosting multiple holiday parties or if you are a teacher and would to reuse with all your classes.

This is the lamination machine that I have and I am kind of obsessed with it! Click here to check it out on Amazon.

Option 2: Use dry erase pockets.
If you don’t have access to a lamination machine, you can also use these really cool dry erase pockets. What you’ll do is place the printed out activities into the pocket and use dry erase markers to write down the words that you find. After you’re done, just wipe away the answers and reuse!

Tip: For both of these options, I would highly recommend printing out the games onto white cardstock. This will help ensure that the page is more durable and can withstand being reused year after year.
