This free printable St. Patrick’s Day word scramble game would make for the perfect activity to play at any holiday party this March.
Word scrambles are challenging, fun, and I know that I personally always feel great when I finally solve a word that I had been stumped on.
One thing that I love about holiday themed word scrambles is that is makes unscrambling the word just a little bit easier. When I’m working on holiday or themed word searches, I know going in what general category each word should fall into.

This St. Patrick’s Day word scramble features 12 different words to try and solve. Since there are both long and short words, this makes it a great activity for plenty of different age groups. I sometimes even find the shorter words harder to solve than the longer ones!
How to make word search games a little more challenging and competitive:
Set a timer for 5 minutes.
First, set a timer for 5 minutes. If you are playing with younger children, you may want to set the timer for a longer duration. Next, instruct everyone to try and unscramble the words as fast as they can. Whoever has the most words solved by the time the timer goes off, can win a prize!
Turn it into a head to head contest.
For this game, no timer is required! First, hand out the word scramble games to everyone face down. When you say “GO,” all the participants will try to unscramble the words as fast as possible. Whichever player correctly solves all of the words first, wins.
Make it into a raffle.
If you are playing word scrambles with a larger group of people or at a holiday party, turning it into a raffle can be a great way to make everything a bit more fun!
Have everyone work on the word scramble game at their own pace. Once they have their game completed, each person can write their name at the top of the page, fold it up and then put it into a large box. At the end of the event, the host can choose one piece of paper out of the box. Whoever’s game is chosen, can win a prize.
Note: Be sure that you check the word scramble answers are correct before giving out the prize! If there are any wrong answers, the prize will go to the second drawn winner.
If you are a teacher, you may want to make the St. Patrick’s Day word scramble reusable. Here’s how:
If you are planning on using the St. Patrick’s day word scramble as a yearly holiday activity for your classroom. Reusing activities can save some time, money and maybe even a few trees!
Use a home lamination machine.
If you have a home lamination machine, you can easily laminate each word scramble game and then use a dry erase marker to write down your answers. Once the activity has been completed, you can quickly wipe off the answers and store the word scramble games away to be reused year after year. This is the home lamination machine that I have and I absolutely love it!
Use dry erase pockets.
If you don’t have access to a lamination machine, you can also use these really cool dry erase pockets. All you would have to do is print out the word scramble games, place them inside the dry erase pockets and use dry erase markers to write down your answers. Once you’re done, simply wipe off the answers and reuse the games year after year.
Note: For both of these options, I would definitely recommend printing out the word scramble pages onto white cardstock. This will help to ensure that the games are durable enough to be saved and reused every year.
