My kids are very much into pretend play at the moment. I can give them something as simple as a spoon and they will talk back and forth pretending the spoon is a person. It’s pretty cute to see and I definitely encourage this type of activity.

However, sometimes it can be fun to play pretend with something other than typical household items! I wanted to create an activity for my kids that they could have fun putting together and then have a toy to play with at the end.

Today, I’m excited to share with you this free printable 3D build a robot craft. It is easy to put together and the process is as fun to put together as the toy you end up with at the end!

Supplies needed to create one robot:

  • Free printable template (the download link is located at the bottom of this post)
  • White cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Crayons, markers, colored pencils or other art supplies (optional)

Step 1: Print out the template.

At the bottom of this post, you will find the download link for the free template. Simply download the file and print onto three pieces of white cardstock.

Step 1a: Color in the robot (optional).

If you would like, you can have your kids use crayons, markers, colored pencils or any other art supplies to color in the robot. This adds a fun layer of creativity to the project as well as elongates it if you have some times to spare!

Step 2: Cut out the template.

Using scissors, cut the robots, head, body and rollers along the outer black lines. If your child is able to use scissors this would be a great opportunity for them to practice their scissor skills. If they aren’t able to yet, you can help them with this step.

Step 3: Fold the robot template along the black solid lines.

Before putting together the robot, you will want to fold everything along the solid black lines.

Step 4: Put together the head, body and rollers.

Next, begin placing glue on the tabs and fold the robot into shape. If you want a quicker and easier project, you can also fold in the tabs and then tape the shapes together instead.

Step 5: Build the final robot.

Now that your robot is colored in, cut out and pieced together it is time to finish! Using glue or tape attach the robot’s head to his body, and then the body to the rollers. Make sure to add on the arms to the sides of the body as well.

Once your robot is put together it is time to have fun with it! Happy playing!

This craft is designed to be printed onto 3 pieces of 8.5×11 inch sized white cardstock. While you can definitely use regular printer paper as well, I would highly recommend cardstock as the robot will be much more sturdy.

Please feel free to download and print as many copies of the robot craft as you would like. However, please do not edit or redistribute the files in any way. This project was created for personal or classroom use only.
