I think we can all agree that carving pumpkins is a huge part of the Halloween season. But if you ever carved a pumpkin, you’ll know that it is definitely not as easy as it looks.
I remember last year, my kids wanted to carve an elaborate design onto a pumpkin. They stayed interested for about 10 minutes and then it was me alone in the kitchen carving and cleaning up the mess!
One great way for your kids to create their own pumpkin without the stress or the mess is by working on this Build a Jack-O-Lantern craft.
Supplies needed:
- Free printable template (the download link is located at the bottom of this post)
- Crayons, markers or colored pencils
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
How to use the coloring page:
Step 1: Print out the template.
First, print out the template onto white printer paper or cardstock. The download link is located at the bottom of this page.
Step 2: Color in the pumpkin.
Using markers, crayons or colored pencils, color in all of the shapes. You can use the standard orange and black Halloween colors if you would like. Alternatively, you can change it up, be creative and use any colors you think look nice!
Step 3: Cut out all of the shapes.
Cut out all of the shapes in the template. If your kids are able to use scissors, this would be a great scissor skills practice activity. If they are unable to use scissors safely, you can cut out the shapes for them instead.
Step 4: Glue the Jack-O-Lantern together.
Begin gluing the face onto the pumpkin. Next, you can glue the entire Jack-O-Lantern onto a fun colorful background.
Your project is now ready to display on the fridge, classroom wall, or anywhere else that needs some Halloween decor!
Favorite Printable Supplies:
These are a few of my favorite supplies that I use for printable games and activities:
- White Cardstock: For most projects, I recommend printing onto cardstock. It is much more durable than standard printer paper and often produces a higher quality print.
- Crayons: A staple in any crafting household. Crayola is always the top notch choice!
- Kid Friendly Safety Scissors: These are perfect for little kids learning how to use scissors. They cut paper but not fingers or hair!
- Glue Sticks: These disappearing purple glue sticks are by far my favorite! I love buying them in bulk since we use them so often!
- Lamination Machine: Laminating printables are a great way to make them last longer. If you are planning on laminating to make games reusable, be sure to get a bunch of dry erase markers as well.
- Dry Erase Pockets: Dry erase pockets are a great alternative to using a lamination machine when wanting to make printable games and activities reusable.
- Printer: A high quality printer is always recommended for the best results. If you are in need of a printer this Brother Wireless Printer is a great choice.
